AVAILABLE NOW: MY SUNDAY SKI SKI SUIT; VALLON SKI AVIATORS
I grew up skiing in the 70’s and 80’s. I remember when ski boots went from ankle-high short black leather to tall bright colored plastic boots like the Nordica Bananas, orange Langes, and the futuristic looking, rear-entry Hansons. Demetre ski sweaters, CB ski jackets, and Gerry down vests (top) were just some of the hot brands and styles.
That’s me below, in high school in Park City, Utah, between two classmates on a ski trip in 1979, showing off some other iconic styles – and skis: me in my Bogner ski jacket, shiny blue ski pants, and Hexcel skis; Brian, on the left, with his yellow Nordica ski boots and Volkl Tiger skis, and a bandana around his neck; and Jon in red ISki mirrored aviator sunglasses. I still have those Salomon racing gloves above.

Other classic looks were tight jeans rolled up to the top of your ski boots with a bandana tied around your knee. Jackets were always short. And nobody wore helmets. Headgear was a bright knit hat with a pompom on top, or flat in a mountain shape.
The 80’s brought neon to the slopes, before snowboarding emerged in the 90’s and kicked the cool out of skiing. Baggy pants and jackets in dark murky colors took over, and ruled the slopes for many years. Until recently…
Brands like Fusalp, Perfect Moment, Cordova, Bogner, and Goldbergh have brought that 70’s style back with some European flair. Fun to see it all come back around – and all together in these collages of old and new – styled in collaboration with @rummagestretch!
