Ski Memories: 50 Years on the Slopes

I grew up skiing in the 70’s and 80’s. I remember when ski boots went from ankle-high short black leather to tall bright colored plastic boots like the Nordica Bananas, orange Langes, and the futuristic looking, rear-entry Hansons. Demetre ski sweaters, CB ski jackets, and Gerry down vests (top) were just some of the hot brands and styles.

That’s me below, in high school in Park City, Utah, between two classmates on a ski trip in 1979, showing off some other iconic styles – and skis: me in my Bogner ski jacket, shiny blue ski pants, and Hexcel skis; Brian, on the left, with his yellow Nordica ski boots and Volkl Tiger skis, and a bandana around his neck; and Jon in red ISki mirrored aviator sunglasses.
