Is “Microdosing” GLP-1 Right for You?

SERENA WILLIAMS IS RO’s GLP-1 AMBASSADOR

GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic, Mounjaro, and Wegovy have completely transformed the weight loss industry since their introduction and are seemingly part of the news cycle every day. The latest is the launch of Wegovy in a pill form, with others slated to follow. These drugs have reshaped not just the landscape of obesity treatment, but metabolic health beyond the scale.

Almost all of us have friends and family whose dramatic weight loss has been hard to miss as a result of GLP-1s. Then there have been the powerhouse celebrities like Oprah Winfrey, and athletes like Serena Williams, inspiring an even wider population to take these drugs, now readily available on numerous telehealth platforms like AgelessRx, Noom, and RO, for which Serena Williams is the spokesperson. Recent polls indicate 1 in 10 adults in the US have used a GLP-1 drug for weight loss or diabetes.

GLP-1 drugs were initially designed to help manage blood sugar in type 2 diabetes, but along with that came the side effect of dramatic weight loss. That led to the development of these medications specifically for weight management. Although there are many brand names for GLP-1s, there are essentially only two drugs, semaglutide and tirzepatide. Both mimic the hormone GLP-1, or glucagon like peptide 1 (tirzepatide mimics both GLP-1 and GIP, or gastric inhibitory polypeptide hormone) which controls the release of insulin from the pancreas and regulates blood sugar levels. They also slow gastric emptying so you stay full longer, reducing appetite and increasing satiety. Read More

Everyday Objects

LEAFY LOUNGERS COASTER SET OF 6; THE SLICE AND DICE PIZZA HATCHET; THE ESCAR-SOAP DISPENSER; THE CHILL PEAS HOT-COLD PACK

The Cactus Makes Perfect Scrub Brush, Swipe and Wipe Credit Card Squeegee, Slice and Dice Pizza Hatchett… these are just a few of the everyday objects turned cartoon characters in the Everyday Objects catalog. What does this have to do with sport? Nothing really, other than it’s the brainchild of surfer and The Swell Season surf podcast host Tyler Breuer, and just turns ordinary things into extra-ordinary fun!

The Everyday Objects catalog is a pop art comic book, in which Tyler is a character, and tells the evolution of Everyday Objects. The story of each product creation is brought to life in an animated cartoon. The products themselves turn 2D into 3D with Lichtenstein-esque graphics. So amused by it all, I had to find out more – and as I had been a guest on The Swell Season last summer, I invited him to be a guest here on SOS…

STYLE OF SPORT: This catalog and these products are so silly and fun. We could all use some comic relief right now. Tell us how it all came to be. Read More

JANUARY 1: DHARMA YOGA

Yoga is hardly a new wellness practice. It has been around for over 5000 years, originating in ancient India. Modern yoga started to gain popularity in the 60’s and 70’s as part of the hippie culture, but exploded in participation in the 80’s and 90’s as a fitness movement, the physical style and focus very different from its spiritual and meditative origins.

Sri Dharma Mittra is 86 years young and has been teaching the original practice of “astanga” yoga for over a half-century at his school in New York and around the world, He opened his first yoga studio in 1975, long before yoga was as ubiquitous as it is today, and continues to share the pathway to radiant health and spiritual enlightenment from the wisdom accumulated from years of practice.
