A couple of weeks ago, I was invited to experience a performance and health assessment at Eternal, a facility targeted to athletes with the goal of continuing their sport and fitness pursuits in their post-prime years. I was put through a series of advanced tests — strength and power, mobility and stability, and aerobic health — performed on the kind of equipment you usually only see in professional athletic training facilities. In addition, there was a Dexa scan to analyze my body composition and bone density, and previously ordered bloodwork that was part of the total health and fitness assessment.
The results I received in every category included a 143+ biomarker panel that was so detailed and comprehensive, it gave me a complete picture of my current health and fitness baseline seven months post-back surgery — with physical and nutritional guidance for improvement going forward. I was truly blown away.
Founded by Alex Mather, the co-founder of The Athletic (acquired by The New York Times) and a founding member of Strava, Eternal is redefining performance health and longevity in their mission to advise and accompany forever athletes in their pursuit of a fuller, healthier, and continued active life. Whether optimizing performance, addressing injuries, or adapting to hormonal shifts, every member’s experience is customized based on their activity type, age, goals, and specific areas of concern.
Since I did my performance assessment, Eternal has become much more, adding comprehensive primary care. In other words, they can now be your primary care physicians, managing your healthcare as your own doctor would, while fully factoring in your active lifestyle and goals as an athlete. Eternal provides members with a holistic understanding of their health, fitness, and benchmarks for key markers of the aging process, along with guidance from high-performance care teams and physicians to support every stage of an athlete’s journey and long-term health.
As a member, you gain access to a complete ecosystem of health and fitness care. For an annual fee of $499 that includes a comprehensive annual exam including an advanced blood panel and DEXA scan, your primary care team will oversee specialist referrals, prescription management, cancer screenings, chronic disease management, and all areas of your healthcare.
All of this is in addition to the Performance Physical Assessment ($999 total) which provides guidance on training, nutrition and supplement plans, pre-hab and rehab, just to name a few. Eternal is your doctor, coach, and performance lab, all under one roof. Every service is designed to help you perform longer, recover faster, and live healthier for decades.
Dr. Desmond Wilson, MD, Eternal’s Chief Medical Officer, told STYLE of SPORT, “It was always on the roadmap to be the medical home for athletes and active people. Health has always been a huge part of the product but ancillary to your PCP. We were testing the waters as guides and what naturally happened was members kept asking, ‘Are you my primary care doctor? Can you be my primary care doctor?’
Our question to members was, ‘What are you looking for in a doctor? Almost always the answer was THIS. ‘I want somebody who knows me, knows what my motivations are, whether they are health or performance related.’
And so the answer became yes — and you have access to our entire performance ecosystem. We’ve redesigned primary care for people who want to stay healthy and active for decades to come, giving members access to doctors, dietitians, trainers, and health coaches who are as invested in your goals as you are.”
