A Recycled Bike with a Buzz

THE RE:CYCLE EDITION ON DISPLAY AT SPRING STUDIOS FOR NYFW SPRING 2020

Swedish brand Vélosophy makes beautiful bicycles – classically designed with a modern appeal for the urban commuter. But there is more to these bikes than meets the eye. With a One for One promise, for every Vélosophy sold, another bicycle is donated to a schoolgirl in a developing country. At the core of the Vélosophy philosophy is a commitment to making a lasting and positive impact through cycling.

That also means using recycled aluminum to produce high-quality bicycles that balance sustainability and design – and you’ll get a buzz when you find out the source of that aluminum in their latest model. In partnership with Nespresso, the RE:CYCLE Edition is manufactured from 300 recycled aluminum coffee capsules!

Coffee pods, the plastic K-Cups in particular, have garnered ire from environmentalists as a primary example of single use plastic waste that ends up in landfills or in the ocean. Nespresso produces their capsules from aluminum which is infinitely recyclable.

The RE:CYCLE Edition has all the functional elegance for which Vélosophy is known – with some fun additions. The striking purple frame is inspired by Arpeggio – a Nespresso coffee pod favorite – and the bell is modeled on the iconic shape of the capsule. The steam-bended oak carrier basket includes not one, but two cup holders. Retailing for $1500, for the coffee loving cyclist, this is the ultimate ride!

The RE:CYCLE Edition collaboration was conceived to show that recycling can be stylish and luxury sustainable. The bike is the perfect blend of these two brands and their shared values — high quality design, made for everyday use, manufactured responsibly.
