The 10 Buzziest Superfoods

Apple cider vinegar, turmeric, activated charcoal, kombucha, and more… you hear people buzzing about these hot wellness favorites all the time! Walk into a smoothie bar and you see matcha on the menu, pick up a magazine and some celebrity is swearing by the miracle benefits of celery juice. We asked Sarah Wragge, our contributing nutrition editor to give us the real deal on 10 of the trendiest foods — and the ones we should be eating now!

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar started getting really popular a few years ago, with everybody talking about its health and weight loss benefits. Apple cider vinegar helps control blood sugar levels that lead to cravings, and is said to work as an appetite suppressant when consumed with meals. It contains organic acids and enzymes that help speed up metabolism and can increase the rate at which body fat is burned. It also works to detoxify the body, helping our digestive systems become more efficient.

SAYS SARAH: Like all fermented foods, apple cider vinegar it is a great probiotic remedy — something everyone should be taking for a healthy gut. Know that bloated feeling? Apple cider vinegar helps increase the good bacteria living inside our digestive tract, and fight the bad bacteria which are often the cause. Personally, I’d rather you take a great probiotic – look for one with 10 billion cultures or higher, and at least 5 different bacteria strains. I like Renew Life. For some people, raw vinegar on an empty stomach (when you should be consuming it) doesn’t feel great, especially first thing in the morning.  Read More

From his Vivienne Westwood hat at the Grammys, to Lanvin tuxedo shorts at the Oscars, to top of the charts hit, “Happy”, Pharrell Williams‘ influence in fashion and music is omnipresent. Yet unbeknownst to many is Brooklyn Machine Works, the NYC based bicycle company he co-founded last summer with BMX pro and rising star, Nigel Sylvester. The company manufactures BMX bikes, and in typical Pharrell mode, recently collaborated with the ultra luxe Paris based furniture design duo, Domeau & Pérès, to create a limited edition fixed gear bicycle.

Domeau & Pérès are recognized for their craftsmanship, and true to their style, the bicycle is couture hand stitched and covered entirely in water buffalo leather. As much artwork as mode of transportation, this made to order bike is priced at $16,500. It is currently available in a limited edition of 13 exclusively at Atelier Courbet in Manhattan’s Soho. Only one is being produced per color, so if yellow is your flavor, and price is not an object, best put the pedal to the metal now.

A few weeks ago we reported on Burton Snowboard’s collaboration and capsule collection with Filson, BURTON x FILSON, but the mash-ups have not stopped there. Now available online and in stores are two more collaborative collections from Burton, that bring the influence of two of the music industry’s biggest stars to snowboard style… one with Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B. and the other with Pharrell’s BIONIC.

BURTON x L.A.M.B.

The highly-anticipated women’s outerwear collection created with Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B. label is finally available in select stores and online, and mixes Gwen’s bold street style with Burton’s tech-savvy functionality. The L.A.M.B. for Burton collection features ten pieces that include down jackets, anoraks, parkas and pants that can’t be missed, each with different prints from large dalmatian dots to an oversized houndstooth.

The goal was to have some fun and try something a little different,” said Gwen Stefani. “The clothing itself is really technical and performance-oriented so it was a new challenge. We worked really hard on the pants – I wanted to design a pair that had a really great fit and is super flattering but also cool with an edge.” Her favorite pieces from the collection, she says, are the Parka Jacket and Tux Pant.

BURTON x BIONIC

Also just in time for the holidays, is Burton’s capsule collection of eco-conscious winter outerwear and accessories created with music and style icon Pharrell Williams, brand ambassador for BIONIC Yarn. BIONIC is an eco-textile brand that makes luxe high-performance fabrics from recycled plastic bottles. BIONIC Yarn incorporates 40-45% recycled content which actually makes it up to 400% stronger than traditional thread and a very durable fabric for snowboard outerwear.

Pharell took his inspiration for this collection from South American textiles, and traditional Peruvian prints are the foundation of the line. With a look that feels both modern and vintage, the Burton x BIONIC line is made up of 7 pieces that include jackets, pants, and accessories designed to transition from wintery weekend pursuits to the daily grind. The brightly striped Bomber Down Jacket features a distinctive silhouette inspired by 1970’s ski jackets, reflecting yet another mash-up of ski and snowboard style!

Both the L.A.M.B collection for women and BIONIC collection for men are available in super limited supply. Grab these pieces while they last at select snowboard shops, Burton flagship stores and on Burton.com.
