I, TONYA 2017

I, Tonya centers on one of the most salacious scandals in sports history, when the rivalry between figure skaters Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan took a violent turn in the weeks leading up to the 1994 Winter Olympics. An ill-conceived attack planned by Harding’s ex-husband, Kerrigan was assaulted in an attempt to break her leg at the U.S. National Championships. Harding would later plead guilty to hindering the investigation and was subsequently banned from competition for life. Margot Robbie stars as Tonya Harding in this darkly comedic tale that earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress, and co-star Allison Janney a win for Best Supporting actress.

Slap Shot is the 1977 sports comedy classic starring Paul Newman as the coach of a struggling minor-league hockey team. In an effort to build up lagging attendance at games, he signs three hard-charging players, the Hanson Brothers, whose violent and thuggish style of play excites the fans and draw big crowds. Outrageous comedy, hard-hitting action, memorable one-liners, and unforgettable characters make Slap Shot one of the best sports movies ever!

Blades of Glory is an irresistible and hilarious spoof starring Will Ferrell and Jon Heder as pair skaters. When stripped of their Olympic medals after a fiasco during the awards ceremony, and permanently banned from men’s single competition, these two rivals find a loophole that allows them to qualify as a pairs team.

A romantic comedy starring D.B. Sweeney and Moira Kelly, The Cutting Edge is the story of a spoiled rich figure skater who is paired with a has-been ice hockey player for 1992 Olympics. Impossible to work with, she has found herself without a partner and as a last resort wrangles this retired former hockey star. Their skating styles are far from compatible, but after much head-butting, comedic drama, and romance, this improbable pair comes together to compete at the 1992 Winter Olympics.

The true story of the 1980 U.S. Olympic Hockey team whose gold medal win over the heavily favored and seemingly invincible Soviet professionals was dubbed the “Miracle on Ice”. Kurt Russell stars as player turned head coach Herb Brooks, who assembled a team of hot-headed college all-stars, and their improbable win became a symbol of American patriotism during the Cold War, as well as his own personal redemption.

Starring 70’s heartthrob Robby Benson and Lynn-Holly Johnson, Ice Castles is the story a young girl who dreams of becoming a world-class figure skater until a tragic accident dashes her hopes. Tragedy strikes when Lexie loses her sight, leaving her to hide away in the privacy of her own despair. She eventually perseveres and goes on to compete again in this romantic drama.
