Quincy x MTK

Surfer Quincy Davis is your summer dream. A born and raised Montauk local, surfing was a family affair. Her mom, dad and brother all surf and got her on the waves at age 7. At 23, she has those sun-kissed surfer girl looks (and tresses!) that come only from years spent in the ocean. A pro for a while, Quincy no longer surfs competitively but still embodies the surf lifestyle. Her style is cool and effortless with that endless summer vibe. A perennial favorite of all the Hamptons summer magazines, she’s the girl we want to be.

You may not be able to surf like Quincy, but you can dress like you do. Quincy x MTK opened this summer in Montauk and features a curated selection of all her favorite surf and swim apparel, beach accessories, beauty products, and other accoutrements. It’s set in a perfect little shingled space on Main Street she’s always loved. Her brother’s healthy noshery, Happy Bowls, also happens to be next door.

We hit the beach with Quincy to find out more about the shop and her recent collaboration with Cynthia Rowley on the hot new Q x ROWLEY wetsuit featured here…

How did Quincy x MTK come to be?

I’ve always loved this spot so much. My dad built me a surf shed when I was younger and it looked just like this. We got the space last year as soon as it became available. I didn’t even know what it was going to be, but I spent the year figuring it out and it became a reflection of my lifestyle. My friends from Curious Yellow Design helped with interiors and colors – the orange floors, pinks and yellow.

It’s so cheerful and summery, but understated too. How did you curate the shop?

A lot of the brands I had connection with through surfing and also friends out here like Kassia+Surf and Warm. There are others I love like Solid and Striped (bikini above), Spell, and Beauty Counter. We also have pop-ups within the store like The Girl in the Water. They have supplied all the swimwear.

Tell me about your personal style…

It’s pretty laid back. The easier the better – anything I can throw over a bikini! I’m not sponsored now so it’s nice because I can wear a mix of things.

How did the wetsuit collaboration with Cynthia Rowley happen?

I have been fan of Cynthia’s suits for years now. She lives here in Montauk and has become a friend. I was in the middle of designing and opening the store, and we wanted to collaborate on something fun! Cynthia is famous for her color block wetsuits and I wanted to create one with the colors of my store. I wanted the suit to be a bit retro and funky!

Where is your favorite place to surf out here?

Ditch Plains. Plus Ditch Witch (food truck) is the perfect spot for a wave check and cup of coffee!

Are you one of those hardcore winter surfers? I saw you were featured in Ice Cream Headaches.

I do it sometimes, but it’s not my favorite. My boyfriend loves it. It’s his favorite time to surf. I’m happy to watch him. Surfers in the snow are so beautiful.
