White Walkers

adidas Originals has just launched the Home of Classics collection, bringing together 10 iconic court-inspired silhouettes, both archival and contemporary, to pay tribute to its lineage of classic white leather sneakers. Celebrating the brand’s most popular models, Home of Classics is led by the Stan Smith, Superstar 80s, and Continental 80 that have transcended cultures and generations to go from performance athletic shoes to coveted fashion sneakers. The lineup also features the Supercourt, Torsion Comp, S.C. Premiere, Nizza RF, Rivalry L0, and A.R. Trainer.

STAN SMITH, THE MAN; STAN SMITH, THE BOOK

Highlighting a few of the models, the Stan Smith is perhaps the world’s most recognized tennis shoe, first released in 1973 and worn by the tennis legend namesake. The recently reissued Continental 80 was first designed in France in 1986 and remixes heritage with modern style in a tonal white on white colorway. The Superstar 80s represents 50 years of adidas court experience, taking numerous design cues from the archive and blending them into a new interpretation. The high-top 1975 basketball shoe Nizza Hi RF has been adopted by skateboarding culture and now features an essential vulcanized rubber sole.

Viewed as a whole, Home of Classics is a retrospective of some of adidas Originals’ most influential designs, and a testament to the timelessness of these sneakers. The collection is now available in store and online at adidas.com.

Out of production since 2012, Adidas announced last week the return of the iconic Stan Smith tennis shoe and a whole new collection. A timeless classic and fashion favorite, the shoe was first launched in 1973 and named after 1970’s American tennis star, Stan Smith. Born in 1946, Smith is a two-time Grand Slam singles champion (US Open 1971, Wimbledon 1972) and was ranked No. 1 in the world in 1972. The Stan Smith was the first leather tennis shoe ever produced and considered very high tech at the time.

Besides the classic fairway green, the Stan Smith is now available in an array of new vibrant colored heel tabs, in addition to a suede skate shoe edition, the Stan Smith Vulc. Adidas has also announced their boutique Consortium line will offer four special editions of the shoe featuring premium leather treatments — cracked leather, reptile, ostrich and pebbled phoenix leather –in the original white and green Stan Smith color scheme, to be released on January 25.

To promote the relaunch, Adidas has created a video entitled ‘The Return of Stan Smith’, which features Smith himself, and celebrities including ‘Arrested Development’ actor Will Arnett, and brand ambassadors such as Andy Murray.
